The host country, India, took delegates up onto the roof of the conference centre last night for a fine reception on aces of astro-turf in the open air. A display of traditional dancing gave way to speeches from the three new CMS ambassadors - one for birds, one for the terrestrial environment and one for the marine. Dinner followed. All the food was vegetarian and no alcohol was served (Gujarat is a 'dry state')
