Slovenia at Summer Solstice

I have just spent almost three weeks in Slovenia, mainly in the picture postcard lake-side town of Bled with its castle on a cliff, church on an island and mountain views. For one exhilarating day I also escaped with colleagues into the countryside and densely forested mountains.

Here are some images - first around Bled.

A handsome Bled Villa
Castle on the Cliff
First mentioned in 1011, 130 feet above the lake.

Barn with potential
Mute swan family on Bled lake

Mallard and chick
Church on the island in the Lake

A hooded crow looks on.

Lake traffic - tourist shuttles to and from the island.

And next into the countryside;

First along the river through the kharst landscape where rivers appear and disappear in tunnels and caves.

A river arch with yellow flag iris in the foreground.
More arches over the river
Frog in riverside puddle.
A fine frog - Rana spp
Next up into the mountains forest where there are beats and wolves and lynx and hares.
(This is a trip along the Masun Trail)

A bear (well stuffed)

Snežnik - the highest peak in southern Slovenia (1,796 m)

...And hares
