Counting the birds 2017

Dawn came. The bird food was liberally scattered and from 08.15 for an hour the birds were recorded (the RSPB ask for a maximum count of each species). Only eleven species last year, so this was more successful. The cold weather probably helps as it seems to bring the pied-wagtails in and the herring gull arrived unexpectedly in the last minute of the watch. More about the Big Garden Bird Watch HERE.

Don't forget the little guys!

Long-tailed tits are regular garden visitors at this time of the year. Like the other little garden birds they live on the knife edge of  existence at this time of year and we need to remember to provide them all with ice-free water and food to help them survive. Below a 'bonus' bullfinch.
